Change Your Communication, Change Your Life - The Power of Beliefs
If you are finding it a challenge to change your life, I talked about beliefs and how they can be the under laying culprit to help you through stages. In this article I will talk about how to uncover your limiting belief with the power of beliefs.
Relief From Pain
Why would you have an interest to find out about a particular limiting belief? A lot of people don't worry about change unless something is not working or effected in their lives. If something in your life is uncomfortable and makes you unhappy, you can probably live with it, but if pain is caused, then naturally we want relief from that pain.
How we live our lives is based on beliefs and paradigms. Beliefs can be either our most powerful ally or our worst enemy. Limiting beliefs can play a huge part with a person's life, but just by merely recognizing the limiting belief, a person can change instantly.
I began reading The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. This one event changed my entire approach to life and is the reason I believe I can achieve anything I put my mind to, which in turn is the reason for all my successes to come. This belief also pulled me through some hard times as well. It came from my belief; it just stoked the fires by also believing in me.
Clues
We all have beliefs about ourselves, and the power of beliefs is very important. One belief can make you totally confident in one area of your life, whilst another belief can do the complete reverse in another area of your life.
There are certain clues if one looks close enough that can tell us if we are dealing with a belief or not. If you use these words in connection with something in your life, it may more than likely have to do with a belief. Let's look at these words. In and of themselves the words are irrational or illogical. It's very rare that something "always" occurs, or something "never" occurs.
Which Belief?
In this example think about how the use of this word is connected to a 'belief'. "I'm not very good at communicating so I'd never be a good salesperson". Due to the lack of ability in the first part of the example, not being a very good communicator, s/he believes they will not be a good salesperson; but does not this statement have two limiting beliefs? The person doesn't believe they are a good communicator, therefore, they may have had personal evidence of this, so naturally it would extend to areas where communication is a required skill and it would affect the person's ability in sales and reinforce their belief.
So which belief do you work on? If the person does wish to be a successful salesperson, naturally the logical solution is to work on being a good communicator. If the belief was improved about communication, you'd not really have to change the belief about never being a good sales person. The first part automatically change's the second part. If you keep trying to change your belief about being a good salesperson, but never improve your communication it probably wouldn't work.
A Core Belief That Changed The World
What is a core belief and how does it tie in with the power of beliefs? It is a thought we keep thinking & forms the basis of our lives, plus our behaviours. When a core belief is elicited and changed all accompanying behaviours dissolve as well. Take our planet Earth for example, it is made up of two parts, the surface and the core; the core is the innermost part. When our ancestors believed that the world was flat (a core belief) they believed they would fall off the edge of the earth if they travelled too far. When the world was discovered to be round, fear of falling off the edge automatically dissolved. Thus if you change a core belief (a thought you keep thinking) all the past limiting behaviours will more than likely dissolve. By the way, there is evidence to suggest that the "world is flat" belief was created to keep people from traveling so as not to discover the riches of the world.
The Mental Diet
So please remember, uncovering a limited belief is as simple as paying attention to the words you use. It's very powerful. Look for the irrational or illogical statements that you make. In fact, as Norman Vincent Peale has suggested, put yourself on a mental diet for a week. Just as you would pay attention to the foods that you eat when going on a diet, pay attention to the words and thoughts that you use on a mental diet. Write them down. You may be surprised that you overindulge in quite a few negative, limiting and illogical words! Happy dieting!
