What do you want in your life?
What do you want in your life?
This question could be an easy one, yet for so many of us this question causes us to stumble as some people genuinely don’t know what they want from life. Maybe you know the answer but are afraid to answer. How-ever, you may have had a certain answer year ago and now you do not after being in the World. Now, you may not even have an answer at all.
Things changed. Why?
What do you want in your life? As a child your vision may have been perfectly clear with what you wanted to be and do when you grew-up, then things changed as you grew physically & mentally. Your vision of what you wanted out of life changed & the things you did not think would be important became very important, whilst things that you thought you must have, became trivial.
Now what do you want?
This may seem a little odd but try change a few things, slowly. Try something completely different. So, for instance you could try eat food from another culture, try a new hobby, learn a new language, volunteer in a different field to the one you presently work in or travel to a new place instead of the same one you may visit every year.
Why try something different?
Your brain will develop new connections once you experience something different, your mind will open to possibilities. You will find things that you like and things you do not like, but there are lessons and advantages to be learnt either way.
What can you learn during this journey?
Maybe you will learn you love swimming, rock-climbing or that you have a gift for language. This could lead you to new hobbies, interests & other avenues. Perhaps along your journey you may find a way to make your newfound interest into a profession. What you want may be answered just by finding an interest or two.
What if you do not like something?
History, museum assistant, tour guide isn’t for you, you would rather go in another direction. But the positive here is you’ve learned something, you learnt that you do not have a passion for that area. Sometimes learning what you do not want is as important as what you do.
What do you not want?
When you know what you do not want then you know what you do want. While this may seem obvious, what if you were wanting to work in a museum surround by history? After your museum experience you realized you don’t wish to be surrounded by history on a daily basis & it’s simply a relaxing hobby you prefer. Perhaps the museum sector changes your mind entirely about entering this field professionally and that is just fine.
